Longer Days and Warmer Weather!

Dear Friends,

Winter is a distant memory as the days grow longer and warmer at Blackberry Spring! We’ve had a lot of rain in the Blue Ridge this May, so the garden is a bit behind schedule, but the luscious wild blackberries have a mind of their own, rain or shine, and will soon be bursting with sweetness.

The cabin awaits you for the rest of spring, summer and fall, with the exception of some weekends already reserved (sorry – we’ve been booked for FloydFest at the end of July for months!). There’s a new classical music festival beginning at the end of May in Floyd – might be fun to give that a whirl! BRRR!! Its’ winter at Blackberry Spring! It’s the perfect time for a weekend retreat to the country and the opportunity to snuggle up by the fireside in our cozy cabin and catch up on the books and movies you’ve been setting aside. When you feel the need to get out, shops and restaurants are open in Floyd, just 30 minutes away, and don’t forget a fantastic lunch or dinner at Chateau Morrissette Winery. And its a beautiful time to hike around the property here and enjoy the winter solitude and the splashes of color provided by the cardinals and bluejays!

Brrr!!! It’s cold but beautiful here at Blackberry Spring – while winter’s not everyone’s cup of tea, if you are looking for a snug weekend retreat and a chance to relax in front of a roaring fire and catch up on your favorite books and movies, it’s that time of year! Lots of activities still abound – check out the antique stores and bluegrass music up in Floyd, enjoy a lunch or dinner at beautiful Chateau Morrisette winery, or just hike around the beautiful Blackberry Spring property and enjoy the solitude of the winterscape.

Summer has arrived at Blackberry Spring! Yesterday afternoon we picked and ate a few handfuls of the luscious dewberries that grow wild up by the road. They look like a blackberry but grow on the ground and we were lucky to get them before the deer did! There seem to be flea markets on most every corner on these sunny weekend days and there are loads of activities to enjoy in the surrounding towns and counties. And did you know we’re only 25 minutes away from some of the best barbecued ribs you can imagine? You’ll find them at the “Pigs -R-Us” restaurant on Liberty Street in Martinsville – the chef/owner and his team, competing under the name “Checkered Pig,” have won top national awards for their “come back for more” recipes. They’ve been featured several times on the TV Food Network – you’ll absolutely love the food!

We’re booked now through the first few days of August, and there are plenty more days and weeks to enjoy your own Blackberry Spring summer – Give us a call or reserve online!
